• Stop the Skateboard Bowl

    in Glen Park !

*** Last month we stopped a motion to design a skateboard bowl in Glen Park. GREAT!

    NOW ->

The City Council is setting up a committee to evaluate Skatebowl sites throughout the city.

This coming Wednesday they vote on:

    1. What the committee will actually do

    2. HOW they will judge the sites, the criteria.

-> ** The draft plan says nothing about neighborhood needs or approval!

    3. The KINDS of Committee Public Members they want.

-> ** The draft plan says members need to have skateboarding experience

    *** AND ->

*** 3 City Councilmen have said they like Glen Park for skateboards.

We Need To Speak Up Once Again,

Just Like We did Last Time!

    Topics

    Personal:

    -How often you come.

-The things you do in Glen Park.

-What qualities do you like about the park?

    The Committee: Members and Goals

-The Committee also needs to represent the neighborhoods or districts.

-Find locations that have a youth population. Cardiff youth #'s are low and getting lower

-Make neighborhood buy-in one of the goals.

-The goal isn’t to find a cool looking place for skateboard features. It’s to serve the city actual needs.

    Noise and Intensity:

-Will skateboard sounds and action impact your use of the park?

-Glen Park is a big bowl and sounds travels loudly.

-If you avoided the park while the loud homeless person was there, because of the noise.

-The high, sharp, whacking sound of skateboards is particularly disturbing.

-Skateboard percussive sounds carry further than the lower, softer sounds of inflated balls for basketball and volleyball.

    Live nearby?

-Do you hear people and sounds from the park at your home?

-Hear Park sounds in your patio or even inside your living room… or even bedroom?

    Parking and road safety:

-Parking is a very common problem surrounding the park.

-Streets get packed. The lot fills up.

-Streets are very narrow and curved. Dangerous for pedestrians, dogs, and driving.

    *Let's be Thankful:

-You can ask this city council for help... as it is known for speaking up for existing neighborhoods... to help protect our experience of this great old park.

    #2: Emails

*Emails can be short and sweet. Say something personal, from your experience, your needs. Ask them to support you and your neighbors, to help you.
